What they built
Aidan McMillan began building a tabletop nuclear fusion device (fusor) at age 8 during the COVID-19 pandemic, working out of the Dallas Makerspace with a retired laser engineer as mentor. After four years of self-study in nuclear physics and iterative prototyping, he achieved successful nuclear fusion just before his 12th birthday in 2024 — becoming potentially the youngest person in the world ever to do so. He is actively pursuing a Guinness World Record and aims to inspire other young scientists while advancing the case for clean, fusion-based energy.
