Kevin Tang

Named "America's Top Young Scientist" 2025 — winner of the 3M Young Scientist Challenge, the nation's premier middle school science competition, at age 13.

What they built

Kevin Tang invented FallGuard, an AI-powered fall detection system that uses computer vision and a custom pose-recognition algorithm to detect falls among elderly people in real time — even in the dark — and instantly alerts caregivers and family members via a smartphone app. No video is stored or uploaded, protecting user privacy. Motivated by his grandmother's fall that caused permanent brain damage due to delayed discovery, Kevin built the system entirely on his own starting in summer 2024. FallGuard is free for families in need, has a 500-family waitlist, and is available as an app for any device.
